-Innfallen - Three Days of Darkness
No demon left in Hell. Not even one. In the excess wickedness and depravity of humanity has God found reason to unleash every demon, every evil spirit, to roam the Earth, causing great harm at will. Beginning with one very cold night, the sun and all of the stars shall be extinguished, creating absolute darkness. What vile creatures have been vomited forth from Hell shall be accompanied by clouds of poisonous vapors, massive earthquakes, tempestuous weather, and fire that falls as rain from the heavens. Of both the righteous and the godless, many will burn in open fields as withered grass. During this horrible tribulation, even the righteous will come to know unimaginable fear. On the third night, the stars shall return, and though the sun will rise on the following morning, few will be left alive to bear witness. Intended to capture in sound the immense fear, but also the great hope, of those hiding indoors during this time, Innfallen offers their vision of the Catholic prophecy of "Three Days of Darkness." Among a myriad of other dark ambient projects presenting scattered releases of abstract sound, in stark contrast has Innfallen - consisting of veteran Doyle Finley (of Invercauld) and talented newcomer Kevin Scala - composed a rich, illustrative tapestry of multi-layered soundscapes that is undeniably the soundtrack to the frightening prophecy of the "Three Days of Darkness." Few dark ambient projects have demonstrated such talent in composing soundscapes so clearly, so concretely linked to the themes they claim to represent. Having created music for many years under such project names as Arcane Art, Penitent, and Defraktor, Karsten Hamre returns in 2009 with the simultaneous release of "Through the Eyes of a Stranger" and Dense Vision Shrine\'s "Time Lost in Oblivion" - both on First Fallen Star! Similar to his project Dense Vision Shrine, under his own name, Karsten crafts desolate dark ambient sound structures, ornamented by sampled sounds and experimental textures. The end result of this process is an experience categorized perhaps too simply as dark ambient, though it more closely resembles a dark soundtrack to a movie, or to a life - as seen through the eyes of a stranger... "Through the Eyes of a Stranger" is presented in a DVD case with professionally pressed CD and professionally printed artwork, limited to 1,000 copies! The first 500 copies are presented in a 2-disc DVD case with a professionally pressed bonus DVD (PAL format), also titled "Through the Eyes of a Stranger," that takes the viewer on a visual journey of imagery used for live performances! Having created music for many years under such project names as Arcane Art, Penitent, and Defraktor, Karsten Hamre returns in 2009 with the simultaneous release of "Through the Eyes of a Stranger" and Dense Vision Shrine\\\'s "Time Lost in Oblivion" - both on First Fallen Star! Although it mysteriously shares a similar title and artwork with "Lost Time in Oblivion" (2007, Desolate Sonorities), "Time Lost in Oblivion" is a completely new album with no known connection to the 2007 release! Building upon a solid foundation of dark ambient, Dense Vision Shrine also employs sampled sounds and sparse rhythm to carefully design the listening experience of a realm where time itself has stopped, of a blackened voyage into oblivion. Each track of the album is distinctive, yet always possessing the signature of Dense Vision Shrine and proving unmistakably bleak. Even a seemingly benign track title like "The Girl Next Door" is in fact found to be quite ominous and devoid of any hope!
